The Westside church of Christ is a non-denominational, independent congregation of a dedicated group of believers working to serve the community in which we live. We also participate in a number of benevolence projects.

What we BELIEVE





OUR BELIEFS


All who respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through faith in Him, repentance of Sin, and immersion into Christ are members of the body of Christ, and his church. The church has no clergy/ laity separation. Each member plays a vital role in taking the Gospel to the world, and in helping fellow followers of Christ to serve God faithfully. we seek to speak only where the bible speaks and are silent where the bible is silent.


FUNDAMENTAL DOCTRINES


Christian beliefs are not the product of our preferences or imaginations. God has revealed what we are to believe and how we are to live. As followers of Christ, we endeavor to learn and understand God's will. Below are some of our more significant beliefs.


God

We believe in the God of the Bible who created and sustains all that is.


Our God is a God of love and justice who continually reaches out to bring us close to Him in this life and for eternity. Since He is God and we are his children, we do our best to submit our will to His and live to His glory.


Jesus

We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that he is the only way to salvation and eternal life.


Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a perfect, sinless life, and then gave His life on the cross for our sins. On the third day He rose fro the dead, and today reigns in heaven.


The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the inspired God given word that we must follow in order to get the most out of this life and provides the only way to salvation through the Son of God.


The Bible is the only objective source of information that we have to learn of God's will for us and the church. The Bible tells us about God, Christ and his church, and how to live as Christian. We that all we do and believe must be by command, example or implication from God's word.


Grace and Sin

We believe that sin is the problem and that God's grace is the only solution.


It was God's grace that sent Jesus to the cross for our sins, and it is God's grace that offers the benefits of Christ sacrifice for us, to us. When our faith in God's grace leads us to accept salvation on His terms, our sins are removed and we are added to the family of God/ the church.


The Church

We believe that the church is the gathering of God's people on earth.





Mission/ Vision Statement





Mission Statement:
We believe that to love God with all our body, soul, mind and spirit and our neighbor as ourselves is our first and second most important mission. And that to carry these out we must respond with faithful obedience to the New Testament of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, both individually and congergationally from the moment of our new birth to the moment of our death.


Vision Statement:
As representatives of God's word for the benefit of the Westside church of Christ in Hermiston we elders envision that this congregation can and should grow spiritually in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thereby, growing in faith, edifying one another and glorifying God, unto the salvation of those souls we touch, and unto their material welfare, only as the New Testament and Jesus Christ directs us to do, and as much as it depends upon us and this congregation to perform.
Values:

Since we believe that God values human beings above all His other creations, we value their eternal destiny and their material welfare as the first and second highest values in this physical world. That man should treasure this on earth above all else, second only to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and their works and blessings.
